NITI Aayog's National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (NSAI 2018) aimed to foster a collaborative "AI4ALL" effort in India, emphasizing government leadership. Subsequent releases include Principles of Responsible AI and a 2023 report detailing the nation's AI development approach. NSAI prioritized sectors like healthcare, agriculture, education, smart cities, and mobility. Challenges highlighted encompassed data ecosystems, research intensity, workforce availability, and regulatory clarity. Responsible AI principles focus on safety, equality, inclusivity, privacy, transparency, accountability, and reinforcement of positive human values. The National AI Mission, launched in 2022, aims at R&D collaboration and features the 'INDIAai' portal. MEITY's 2023 AI report outlines seven pillars for strategic AI development, including Centers of Excellence, Dataset Platform, and future skills initiatives. MEITY recommends a "Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme" to incentivize domestic AI development.
